Alpha Leagues is a fantasy league where the players are real, audited trading strategies from a public research record. You draft a team under a salary cap, and teams are scored on the strategies' real forward performance, published daily. It's a game over a research record — game mechanics, not investment advice.
Quickstart
Section ①
Every division is a pool of units (the "players") with its own fixed draft format. Four divisions draft one fixed roster under one salary cap; the Legacy pool keeps its 8-league ladder. Provenance labels ride on every unit — some divisions are explicitly attribution slices or watch-only prospects, and the cards say so.
| Division | Units | Roster | Salary cap | Personality |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pool Certified | 6 | exactly 3 of 6 | $12,000 | The proven starters — the clean Charter passes plus the sealed Four-Pass Book, grade-priced $3,500–$4,500. |
| Pool Sectors | 27 | 4 of 27 | $9,000 | Slices of the certified futures books — attribution sleeves, never standalone claims. |
| Pool Pairs | 40 | 5 of 40 | $5,000 | The XSPAIRS 40 cointegrated US500 pairs — flat $1,000 season-0 pricing, re-priced quarterly by a pre-registered rule. |
| Pool Prospects | 6 | 3 of 6 | $1,500 | Watch-list lottery tickets with warts on display — decayed and deflation-failed signals tracked honestly, flat $500. |
| Pool Classical | 12 | per-league K (ladder) | LEAGUES-3 ladder | The original pool — Sherman + forex sleeves competing on the legacy 8-league ladder. |
The Legacy division (Pool Classical) drafts on the original ladder instead — Tennis Doubles (K=2, $5,000 cap) up through Soccer (K=11, $22,000); Football and Mega exceed its 12 units and are not offered. See the formats page for the full reference, or browse the pools to meet every unit.
Section ②
Salaries come from frozen, published formulas — not from opinion. In Pool Certified each unit's salary maps its registry grade-card score onto a $2,000–$5,000 scale (the formula is frozen in the pool file); Pairs are flat $1,000 and Prospects flat $500 for season 0; Sector slices are grade-priced the same descriptive way. The grades are descriptive of the sealed record — never a promise about the future.
The tradeoff, concretely
In Pool Certified the A-grade captain costs $4,500 and the two B's cost $4,300 and $4,000. Drafting all three would cost $12,800 — over the $12,000cap, infeasible by design. 15 of the 20 possible 3-unit rosters fit; the top-heavy one doesn't. You must choose.
Caps exist to make the draft a real decision instead of "pick the top of the list". And to say it plainly: salaries are game pricing, not allocation advice — they price the draft, they don't weight the score, and they are not a suggestion about real capital.
Section ③
Everything happens on the Build page. The flow, using the actual controls:
Section ④
Enter your email in the Owner email field and hit "Save my team". (Your team is displayed under the part of your email before the @ — there is no separate team-name field.) On success you get a "Team sealed" card with your team_id, a SHA-256 creation seal and the UTC timestamp, plus a link to your team page. The team joins your division's leaderboard on the next bake, and your season score starts accruing with your first published session — it's the big gold number at the top of your team page from day one (the statistical tiles need 5 sessions).
Optional: tick "Email me weekly Season standings for my team" at save time and we'll email your team's ranks and scores on Fridays. Unchecked by default — no email unless you ask — and replying STOP unsubscribes you.
Saves are validated twice — in the builder and again server-side against the sealed season rules. If a save is rejected, it's one of these, and the error card says which:
Section ⑤
Season 0 — the soft launch — runs 2026-07-14 → 2026-07-21 (6 sessions). The scoring rules were sealed before the season started and do not change; the Season-0 designation and close date are a dated, hashed addendum — both hashes are printed below. Season 0 is our live shakedown — the promoted Season 1 opens with a fresh pre-registration, new features, and the full player catalog. Season 0 results stay on the permanent record.
Who wins
Each division crowns its own champion: the team with the highest cumulative score on its division leaderboard at the season close — the equal-weight mean of your drafted units' published daily net returns, summed over the Season-0 window (2026-07-14 → 2026-07-21, missing rows zero-filled). Exact ties resolve in the frozen order: (1) lower team max drawdown, (2) lower total salary spent, (3) earlier creation time. Teams created mid-season score from their sealed creation date — no hindsight.
And what does the champion win? Season 0 is a record-only soft launch: champions take the top of the permanent season record — and the bragging rights. No prizes, no entry fees this season; sponsor-funded prizes (entry always free) may be introduced in future seasons under pre-registered rules.
The pre-registration
Every scoring rule above is frozen in H-ALPHA-LEAGUES-SEASON-1_2026-07-09.md, sealed before the season. Its SHA-256:

Anyone can recompute the standings from the published files and these documents — if your recompute disagrees with our leaderboard, our leaderboard is wrong. Full rules: Season 0 frozen rules →
Section ⑥
Section ⑦
Coach AI publishes its top-3 rosters per division — the "Coach's pick" plus alternates #2 and #3, ranked under one frozen objective. What it optimizes is fantasy scoring under your division's cap: a correlation-penalized selection (score minus a λ=0.5 pairwise-correlation penalty — roughly "Sharpe-minus-correlation") solved exactly under the roster and salary constraints, with the objective formula frozen in the published recommendation file. In the builder the suggestion box offers all three; loading one and editing it is the intended move.
Beat the Coach, don't copy it. The Coach's pick is the par, not the answer sheet: it is published before the season and rides each division leaderboard as a non-competing benchmark ghost, so copying it can only ever tie a ghost. One swap makes a roster yours.
What it does not do: it is not investment advice, not allocation advice, and not a prediction. Several divisions are gross-of-cost attribution slices or watch-only prospects — drafting them is a game move, not a trade. Full spec: Coach AI page →
Section ⑧
Strategies get retired when a sealed, pre-registered test refuses them — a cost tier they can't survive, a matched-random control they can't beat, a data defect that voids their record, or a forward window that takes the edge back. Retired players hang in the Hall of Retired Jerseys with their cause of retirement on the plaque. That wall is why the active roster means something: every unit you can draft has so far survived the same tests that retired the others.
Section ⑨
The league's integrity pitch in three sentences: the rules were sealed before the season started, and the hash printed above binds them. Every input to every standing is a public file, and the scoring function is deterministic arithmetic. If your recompute of any number disagrees with ours, ours is wrong.
Section ⑩ · beta
The open league is duplicate-tolerant by design: two people can field the same lineup. A private group flips that inside your circle of friends — drafted units become exclusive within the group, first claim wins, so it plays like a real fantasy draft (my Sherman, not our Sherman). Groups (beta) — rules finalize in the Season 1 pre-registration.
Beta rules of thumb (to be finalized in the Season-1 prereg): claims are per group per division and permanent for the season (no releases); one team per member per group; max members frozen at creation. The global open league is untouched — exclusivity never applies outside your group.
Section ⑪ · beta
The Locker Room is your home bench: every team and group saved under your email in one place — season scores, division ranks, invite codes, and one-tap links to each team's public verification receipt.
Login is optional and additive (soft-launch beta): building and saving teams works signed-out exactly as before. When you ARE signed in, the builder locks the owner-email field to your session so new teams land in your locker room. Soft-launch note: if the sign-in email bounces with a "not enabled" message, email your address to the operator to be added as a tester.
Draft Day
First-claim groups reward whoever saves fastest. Draft Day replaces the race with a real draft night: the commissioner schedules a time, everyone shows up, and you take turns claiming units on a pick clock — snake order, like fantasy football. Draft Day (beta) — mechanics finalize in the Season-1 pre-registration.
Sign-in required: draft actions (scheduling, RSVP, picks) need a locker-room session — the first Alpha Leagues feature gated on login. Spectating a draft room is open to everyone. While a draft is scheduled or live, builder saves into that group+division pause so nobody can snipe units mid-draft.
FAQ
No. Rosters are immutable after creation — the save is SHA-256-sealed, and the backend has no edit endpoint; re-submitting the identical lineup just returns your original team. Want a different lineup? Save a new team: it gets its own seal and scores from its own creation time.
Duplicates are legal — team ids are hashed per owner, so two people can field the same lineup (the builder warns you when you're about to, but never blocks a legal roster). Identical rosters created before the same scored session earn identical scores, and an exact tie at season close resolves by the frozen tiebreak chain: lower team max drawdown, then lower salary spent, then earliersealed creation time — so a copy loses to the original by construction. A team created later scores from its own creation date (no inherited head start). And the Coach's team is published before the season for everyone to see — it rides each division leaderboard as a non-competing benchmark ghost, so copying it means tying a ghost you can never out-rank. Beat the Coach, don't copy it.
The draftable catalog is frozen at season start, and your roster is immutable — so you keep the slot. If a unit stops publishing daily rows, the sealed missing-data rule zero-fills it: it contributes 0 for every date with no published row, with no back-fill and no substitute picks. Retirement risk is part of the draft.
The builder disables "Save my team" until your roster is exactly the division size, your email looks valid, and you're under the cap. Server-side rejections (shown on the red "Save rejected" card) are the same rules: over the cap, wrong roster size, invalid email, a duplicated unit, or an unknown division. A 409 means you already saved this exact team — it links you to the original.
No. Alpha Leagues is a record-only fantasy game over published research series. Salaries, scores, leaderboards and Coach recommendations are game mechanics — not investment advice, not allocation advice, and not an offer of any financial product. There are no entry fees.
From the published per-pool daily-returns files (/data/alpha-leagues/cell_returns_*.json), built from the record-only shadow ledgers of the underlying research program. Some divisions are gross-of-cost attribution slices or watch-only prospects, and their cards say so. The files refresh nightly and anyone can download them.
New strategies (the players) can't — units added to the catalog mid-season join the next season, per the sealed eligibility rule. New humans can: create a team any time, and it scores from its sealed creation date — the anti-hindsight rule means you compete on what happens next, not on what already happened.
No. Scoring is the equal-weight mean of your units' cumulative daily net returns — salaries only price the draft. (Thrift is rewarded once, though: lower salary spent is the second tiebreak.)
Each division crowns its own champion: the team with the highest cumulative score on its division leaderboard at the Season-0 close (2026-07-21). Exact ties resolve in the frozen order — lower team max drawdown, then lower total salary spent, then earlier creation time. Season 0 is record-only: the champion takes the top of the permanent season record and the bragging rights — no prizes, no entry fees. Sponsor-funded prizes (entry always free) may be introduced in future seasons under pre-registered rules.
Season 0 is our live shakedown: a short soft-launch window (2026-07-14 → 2026-07-21) that exercises the whole scoring path on real teams before the promoted season. The designation ships as a dated, hashed addendum — the sealed scoring rules are byte-untouched. The promoted Season 1 opens with a fresh pre-registration, new features (private groups), and the full player catalog; Season-0 results stay on the permanent record.
Nightly. Leaderboards re-bake daily at 16:55 ET and the published data files refresh after the US close (typically ~18:05 ET); pages re-fetch every few minutes so new days appear automatically. The newest scored session is normally the last completed trading day (T-1).
